Spring Rag Rug Wreaths

  • Florence Arts Centre Egremont, England, CA22 2NR United Kingdom (map)

As a part of out Textile Festival, Jenni Payne will help you create a lovely spring rag rug wreath.

Learn a new skill and take home your own unique piece of rag rug. You will learn:

• how best to cut the strips of fabric

• how to use a bodger to attach the strips

• How to trim and finish your wreath

All materials will be provided.

At the end of the session, you will have your own individual piece to take home.

Jennifer Payne - I have lived and worked in West Cumbria for many years and have enjoyed making things by hand for as long as I can remember. Both drawing and textiles interest me and it must be the tactile qualities in each that appeals. The Fabricate group has been a catalyst for new ideas and also provides valued mutual support.

The natural world is an inspiration in most of my artwork: natural materials are always my preference and traditional methods reinforce links with makers who have gone before. Examples include Rag Rugs and Peg Loom weaving which have been used for centuries to create new items by recycling fabric: textile art promotes sustainability.

This session is suitable for beginners aged 8+ with reasonable mobility. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Our centre is wheelchair accessible with parking on site, ramped access to the studio door and level throughout. We have a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
