Hand Tinting Photographs- FREE

  • Florence Arts Centre Egremont, England, CA22 2NR United Kingdom (map)

Join artist Alistair Debling for a workshop using Florence Paintmakers' watercolours to hand tint black and white photographs. Take inspiration from examples of Victorian and early Japanese hand coloured photographs - a technique that was popular before the invention of colour photography - before creating your own using archival photographs of Florence Mine and its workers. Using locally sourced, natural pigments, you will bring historic photographs to life while infusing them with the colours of Cumbria's landscapes.

Alistair Debling makes films, photographs, performances, meals and installations that investigate diverse fields, from queer nightlife and ecology to militarism, agriculture and architecture. Through sustained engagement with a particular community, he likes to discover unlikely connections: what does a nuclear power station have in common with a disco ball? A dairy cow with a canonised saint? A gay bar with a wild elephant?

Our centre is wheelchair accessible with parking on site, ramped access to the studio door and level throughout. We have a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
