Family Felting Workshop
Saturday 25 November, 11am to 4pm (drop-in anytime)
To accompany the exhibition Tangled Threads, the artists from Flax will be hosting a series of workshops.
Artist Stephanie Conway invites you to join her for a day of simple felting, inspired by the site-specific hematite from Florence Mine. Our hematite is heavy, has a metallic lustre and forms unusual and attractive kidney-shaped crystal masses - a classic example of the 'kidney' form can be seen above.
This will be a joint project that will produce a large hand felted work of art. It will resemble a piece of Florence's Kidney Iron Ore, as pictured above. The finished art work will be displayed at Florence Arts Centre.
The ‘Florence Ore’ art work will be made up of many wool felted balls. Demonstrations of how to make felted balls will be given throughout the day. Lots of balls will be needed and at the end of the day they will all be collected and taken away to be felted together into one piece. Once in one piece the ‘Florence Ore’ will be cut in half to reveal a very exciting, colourful and artistic effect. The ‘Florence Ore’ will then be returned to Florence Mine to be exhibited and will be accompanied with a list of names of all who made the felted balls.
Be part of this unique creation and join us for this free drop-in workshop. Come anytime between 11am and 4pm to take part - suitable for all. Children must be accompanied and prepare to be messy - lost of water and soap involved.
No need to book, just turn up!
