This summer Florence hosts the first exhibition from fabricate, a new group of textile artists based here in West Cumbria.
interwoven will feature the work of seven artists - Sue Cosham, Sue Jackson, Mary Ann Lancaster, Ruth Moore, Jenni Payne, Ruth Waterhouse and Emma Wigginton - crossing the boundaries of textiles and stitchcraft and fusing traditional crafts with 21st century creativity.
The work on show is inspired by our heritage, interpreted in textile art, and includes work in many disciplines - felting, printing, rag-rugging, quilting, embroidery and more.
Each artist brings their own unique take on the over-riding theme and the pieces range from the commercial - embroidered pictures, felted landscapes - to the personal and experimental. There is sure to be something to enlighten and inspire in this colourful exhibition from fabricate: the textile group from the western fells.
Woolfest weekend open day, Sunday 24 June
Join us on Sunday 24 June, from 11am, and make the most of your Woolfest weekend - meet some of the artists involved, see them at work on new pieces and bring all of your Woolfest goodies to 'show-and-tell'. The Florence knit 'n' natter gang will also be having a special one-off Sunday meet-up so bring your WiPs along and join them.
Felting Workshop with Ruth Moore
Thursday 28 June, 1pm to 3pm, £20
As part of the interwoven exhibition, artist and feltmaker Ruth Moore will be running this workshop teahcing you the basic of felting and producing your very own felted owl, chick or brooch. All materials are included in the price and booking is recommended as places are limited.
'Beach Huts' Appliqué Workshop with Emma Wigginton
Saturday 7 July, 10am to 1pm, £20
To accompany the exhibition, Emma Wigginton is holding this special workshop on appliqué and free-machining. Bring your own sewing machine to take part.
