The Florence Art Group
Every Thursday, 6.30pm to 8.30pm
The Art Group is a non-profit group for artists of all abilities and all styles meeting each week. There is a £5 charge per person (£2.50 at your first two sessions) which helps to cover the room hire costs and the rest of the money goes in the kitty for booking a guest artist to come along and do us a demonstration or a workshop. Past workshops demonstrations have included:
The workshops or demonstrations tend to happen once every 1 – 2 months so that members get plenty of time to work on their own projects in the sessions. We run the workshops every so often to help inspire us and to help us develop creatively. Some members don’t attend every session and just dip in and out when they have time or some people do attend regularly. There is often a discount on workshop fees for regular members of the Art Group.
What do you have planned?
Special evenings and artist’s workshops will be listed on the workshops page and we organise an annual exhibition for those members who want to exhibit.
Who we are:
We are a group of people who are in love with and passionate about art. We meet every Thursday at Florence from 18.30 – 20.30 to draw or paint, enjoy the banter and have a cup of tea. If we are very lucky someone brings chocolate biscuits! Currently numbers vary from between 4 and 10 people and we all bring something to work on that interests us. Some people in the group enjoy using watercolours, some enjoy using inks, colouring pencils, or pastels. Whatever you want to bring is entirely up to yourself. We don’t have a stock of art equipment as we all bring our own supplies but if you are short of ideas or you just want to come along and see what we do we are more than happy to share our supplies and ideas with you.
The Ethos of the Group
We all consider ourselves amateurs and we just like the opportunity to come together and enjoy art. We all have different interests and ‘specialisms’ which we are happy to share with others if they want to learn more. We don’t critique or assess anyone’s work but we are happy to offer advice if it is wanted. The group is much more about enjoying art and being able to do something we enjoy in a supportive atmosphere. Members bounce ideas off each other and give each other advice and are currently working on pieces for an exhibition to be held at the mine hopefully later in the year.
“The group is very welcoming with no egos on show. Everyone is very friendly and encouraging. I’ve learnt a lot already just by speaking to the other members. It’s amazing to see the progress members have made.” – Del
