Ambitious new rock band Wolfpeake are back at Florence for a headline set this Spring ahead of a summer of festivals. Make sure you catch them in the intimate space of FAC before they go big - with slots at Touchdown Festival, Easterfest and Kendal Calling coming up you might get another chance to see them this up-close-and-personal!
The North West outfit, formed from the ashes of several established touring acts, independently released their debut single, Hennessy, in September 2017, supported by their first headline slot at Florence. Drawing comparisons to some of the most exciting bands in British music – echoing the instantly memorable indie of Catfish and the Bottlemen and the fist-pumping pop punk of Lower Than Atlantis, this new four-piece are hoping to forge a similar path from the underground to mainstream recognition.
Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Jack Hayes, lead guitarist Sam O’Donnell, guitarist Dean Worrall, bassist Arron Twinney and drummer Callum Gibbons formed Wolfpeake in spring 2017 following the break-ups of their previous bands – hoping to fall back in love with music, and give their local scene in industrial heartland Barrow in Furness a shot in the arm with this energetic and exciting new direction. The response so far has been nothing short of phenomenal, racking up more than 3,000 followers on Instagram even before a note has been played, and praise from all quarters for their Hennessy single and video, recorded and mixed by JB Studios in Cumbria.
“It’s sort of a mix of pop punk that we are all into, with indie vocals – but what’s different about this band is that we are writing for the song. We’re not overplaying anything or making things too technical – it’s all about making the vocals really hooky, and doing what comes naturally.” – drummer Callum Gibbons
“The thing that blew me away right from the start was that when we started playing my songs as a band, they were exactly as I’d envisaged them when I wrote them. I couldn’t believe how huge they sounded. I really hope that people are just as surprised as I was, when I heard our music come together for the first time.” – vocalist and guitarist Jack Hayes
“We’re all super positive about starting out and the songs we’ve produced are sounding really, really strong. There’s definitely an air of excitement around us every time we play together and we can’t wait for people to hear what we’ve got going on.” – lead guitarist Sam O’Donnell
“We’ve been hiding away in our small practice space for a good few months now, finalising the set and we feel confident with what we have to show everyone. We have some more really great songs written, ready for recording, so the EP will be with you soon. Our next plan is to get out and gig as much as we can, and we’re definitely planning to get on tour.” – bassist Arron Twinney.
With gigs lined up across the region, and big plans ahead – including a debut EP and live shows around the UK – Wolfpeake will be one of the bands to keep an eye out for in 2018.
Opening the night will be great new Cumbrian band The Büth. Nat, Bob, Liam and Kane first played at Florence at Soundwave's Production Acadmey showcase late last year. We've been itching to get them back so make sure you're here for their opening set at 8pm, followed by the brilliant newcomers Run & Hyde playing at Florence for the very first time.
