Exhibition: Rhys Moore
Saturday 27 January to Saturday 24 February 2018
Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm
Rhys Moore is a 22 year-old artist who recently graduated with a BA(Hons) Fine Art First Class degree. Some of his recent work will be on show in our Long Gallery during February - entry is free during our normal opening hours, and also during evening events.
My current practice centers around the idea of iconization within painting, how iconic works are perceived (both through printed media and first-hand experiences) and finally how defects, imperfections and ageing are, for the most part overlooked with regards to these works.
My inspiration centres around the modernist works created within the early to mid-1900s from artists such as; Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian, Joan Miró and Mark Rothko.
Through the development of multiple painting techniques, alongside the use of a varied array of painting implements, I am able to create painted surfaces which demand a closer inspection to be fully visually absorbed. This is achieved chiefly through the combination of a multitude of layering systems alongside the mixing of individual colours on the works surface. This process provides an alternative, unusual and intriguing painted surface.
