From late August to early October of 2016, award-winning poet Pascale Petit spent her time in St Bees, Cumbria, and worked with a group of Copeland residents, who are all over the age of sixty. During the residency, Pascale guided the participants through different forms of writing, through inspiring, playful and encouraging workshops and well-communicated constructive criticism.
Cumbria’s cultural heritage and natural beauty, from the world-famous William Wordsworth and the lakes to the less recognised painter Percy Kelly and Cumbrian west coast, have also shaped the writing produced by Pascale and the participants.
Between Fell and Sea, a selection of new poems and short stories from the participants and Pascale Petit is the outcome of this programme. The book contains new poems and stories by West Cumbrian writers – Hazel Block, Eileen Dixon, Pauline Herbert, David Ivey, Sylvia Moon, Dianne Gasser, Lesley Munro, Rachel Isherwood – and new work by Pascale Petit.
West Lakes residency is a part of Elements – a new festival celebrating age and diversity.
