Spinning Demonstration with Susan Denham-Smith
Saturday 17 June, 12noon to 2pm
To accompany our exhibition, A Diversity of Threads, participating artists will be holding a series of workshops and demonstrations giving you the chance to try your hand at techniques and see the inspiration behind the work.
Susan Denham-Smith is a local spinner, knitter, weaver and owner of the Wild Wool Workshop operated from her farm in the Ennerdale Valley. Susan will here on the opening day of the exhibition to offer free demonstrations of this most traditional of crafts - spinning.
Susan's speciality is working with the native Cumbrian Herdwick fleeces and you will get the chance to handle the raw materials before using the spinning wheel to transform it into usable yarn. We will have four wheels available so we would urge you to book a place if you wish to take part - call 01946 824946 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The session runs from 12noon to 2pm and everyone is welcome to watch Susan at work, handle the fleeces and see the spinning process from start to finish, including carding and using a spinning wheel. Suitable for everyone; children must be accompanied.
