Clootie Rings Workshop
Sunday 18 June, 1.30pm to 3.30pm
£1 per person to cover material costs (pay on the day)
To accompany our exhibition, A Diversity of Threads, participating artists will be holding a series of workshops and demonstrations giving you the chance to try your hand at techniques and see the inspiration behind the work.
Join artist Jenni Payne for this fun and informal workshop to make a eye-catching summer decoration. Why keep decorations just for Christmas? Let’s celebrate Midsummer with a Clootie Ring! In Celtic (and Tibetan!) tradition a Clootie Tree, usually beside a holy well, was decked with strips of cloth or rags by pilgrims hoping to attain good health and long life.
In this workshop, you can choose your own material from our stash to make a Clootie Ring - or bring along a favourite old shirt, dress or similar, to recycle into a beautiful Midsummer Garland.
Let's wish for a long and healthy summer too!
This workshop is suitable for all ages, however, young children should be supervised as scissors will be used. Please reserve a place in advance so we can prepare materials - call 01946 824946 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
