Booking is now open for one of the UK’s finest folk singer-songwriters, Ewan McLennan, live in concert in the intimate setting of Florence Arts Centre.

Ewan McLennan has, in a short space of time, come to be known as a guitarist at the forefront of his generation; a troubadour, balladeer and storyteller cut in the old style; a singer that can move audiences with his passion and pathos; and a songwriter for whom social justice is still a burning issue. His critically-acclaimed debut album Rags & Robes was released in 2010 and that year he became a firm favourite on the UK folk circuit. The album went on to win him the prestigious Horizon Award at the BBC Folk Awards in 2011.ewan-mclennan.1

His subsequent two albums, The Last Bird to Sing (2012) and Stories Still Untold (2014) cemented his place as one of our finest conscientious songwriters, taking inspiration from folk greats of the past and his contemporaries. Since 2012 he has been awarded two Spiral Earth Awards; the songs he sings and writes are rooted in traditional songs and the tradition of folk music as social commentary earning him the Alistair Hulett Memorial Prize for Political Songwriting, and in 2013 he was part of the acclaimed Transatlantic Sessions, performing and recording with an international roster of the finest folk musicians.

“I was completely and utterly bowled over by Ewan’s music. One of the most exciting new voices I’ve heard in years. Deep commitment and understanding is the bedrock, and there’s a sure touch here that runs through the music like iron. He sings beautifully, with great sincerity, great empathy, he’s terrific!”Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2

‘A stunning collection of songs which confirms Ewan’s name as one of the bright lights on the folk scene today.’

Supporting Ewan on the night is Anne-Marie Sanderson – a singer-songwriter from St Bees, recently returned to the UK after five years in America, where she released two EPs and toured up and down the west coast. Her most recent EP, Shadows & Sparks (2015), explores twin-opposite themes of light-dark, mystery-certainty, love-loss, with songs arranged for a luscious chamber-folk ensemble. Following in the tradition of timeless singer-songwriters, her music is often compared to that of Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake, but fans and critics alike recognize that Anne-Marie Sanderson is all her own.

“…confessional, literary folk… delicate and powerful at once…” – The Modern Folk Music of America

This is certain to be a highlight of this year’s live music at Florence – don’t leave it too late to book as this one is guaranteed to be a full house!
